Accordingly, the background video playback feature comes with MIUI 12 and will no longer be available in HyperOS. Xiaomi decided to remove it, possibly after Google’s warning.
It is known that the background video feature is a premium feature for users who subscribe to YouTube’s Premium package. However, previous Xiaomi smartphone users can use it without paying.
However, the Chinese company will gradually remove this feature from the video toolbox (Video Toolbox) with new updates. Video Toolbox is appreciated for its useful features and has been added in MIUI 12. Now in MIUI 15 (HyperOS as Xiaomi calls it), there will be no option to play videos when the screen is off. Those who still want to use this feature will have to sign up for a YouTube Premium subscription.
This new move by Xiaomi is to comply with Google’s policy and unfortunately this feature had to be removed. Although users are very upset, there is nothing that can be done.
